The Easy Way Into Renewable Energy

Just about everyone thinks renewable energy is a good idea. And just about everyone would like to install some sort of renewable energy system whether that is wind or solar power. However, most people never do. Why? What is stopping them?

In informal discussions I have had with people regarding renewable energy there seem to be two main factors stopping them from making a start in it. The first is cost. A professionally purchased and installed solar panel system can easily cost in excess of $20,000. This sticking point can be fairly readily overcome by explaining that they can do it themselves for a fraction of the cost. But that then leads into the second factor.

While many people would like to "do it themselves",  they feel that they don't have the necessary skills or knowledge especially when it comes to working with electricity. Also they don't know where to start to source the components.

As an aside, I am concentrating mainly on solar power generation in this discussion of renewable energy as I believe it is the one with the widest application and appeal. There is no doubt that wind power can also be an effective renewable energy generator but relatively few locations have sufficient reliable breezes to make power generation a useful option. Sunlight, on the other hand, covers most of the planet most of the time.

With the wealth of information available on websites these days there is really no excuse for not giving renewable energy a go. With a bit of time you can find all of the information you need to construct your own solar panels or wind power generator at home for very little cost. You can work out how to size the generating capacity to meet your requirements and how to wire up the components. Doing it that way is certainly the cheapest way – but not the easiest as you have to do a lot of research and sift out the good information from the bad.

The Easy Way Into Renewable Energy

The easiest way to get into renewable energy, IMHO, is to purchase a set of plans that show you how to wire everything up. This can save you an enormous amount of time and effort. It is even better if the plans include videos for the various steps so you can see how they are done. Not only does this make it clearer to you, but it gives you confidence when you can see that construction is not as difficult as you initially thought.

The great advantage of doing it this way is that you learn while you are doing it but you avoid most of the trial and error because the developer of the plans has gone through all the error phases for you! Alll in all it is a win-win situation. You win because you save time and money implementing your renewable energy system and the developer of the plans wins because he makes a few dollars when you purchase his plans and can develop them further.

In fact, one such set of plans I have been following is that put out by GreenDIYEnergy. While they are not renewable energy lesson plans, the are construction and wiring plans that cover all of the steps you need to complete to have your own home renewable energy system whether solar or wind powered. Over the last year I have seen new videos added and additional information included in the printed material. This has been of much benefit and is just one reason why I think this is a great product.
