   Its pretty difficult, and for the cost of the PV mateirals (which will go wasted if you don’t construct it correctly), you’re better off just buying a real panel.

   You might call a solar dealer – a few years ago one I knew was working on a very small system (designed for renters) which you unfold on the lawn and plug into an outlet and it feeds power into the house. Wouldn’t create an enormous amount of energy, but he said that the overall system payoff per watt produced was similar to a traditional system. So you may want to see if there’s an affordable solution like this for you.

   Sadly, solar is not cheap yet. Once we start subsidizing it like we do oil, these systems will be within normal people’s reach!

   The people that are claiming its difficult are refering to building one from scrap. I recently put up a few small ones and will be covering my roof next summer because I’m very satisfied. I used the designs from and it was fairly simple. Basically it gives you sources for all the cheapest parts and an easy design, you assemble and save a ton of money.
