Jerry and his family were on a tight budget. As a large family living on one income, they always have been. His wife was disabled and received a check from the state each month, but it wasn’t that much. Ron was entering his first year at Michigan State, so his college tuition would only add to the family expenses. They had enough money to pay all their bills and get by, but they didn’t have any extra to splurge away.

Jerry’s wife, Sara, was confined to a wheelchair since her car accident several years ago. She did her best to continue to have an active life she did before the accident, but most of her days were spent at home in front of the television or at the computer. When the three kids were home, it was okay for her, because they would make an effort to be there for their mother and spend time together. But with Ron off at college, Gary in high school and working in the evenings, and Jessica starting first grade, Sara felt lonesome and bored. She wanted to be able to reconnect with her family, to get out of the house together… Sara wanted a family vacation. No, she needed a family vacation. But she knew the family couldn’t afford one.

But then one day, while Sarah was surfing the Internet, she stumbled across a Web site that would soon change their lives. At first, Sara was skeptical – was it possible to fuel their two diesel trucks for 46 cents to the gallon? That would literally save her family thousands of dollars in fuel costs in one year!

Sara showed the Web site to Jerry. He wasn’t sure what to think at first either, but then he figured, “What have we got to lose?” So they made a small investment, ordered the starter kit and started to fuel their diesel trucks with their own fuel that they were producing themselves using mostly cooking oil waste, at a fraction of the cost of what they were used to paying at their local gas stations.

Not only did they save all that money, but they felt good about helping the environment at the same time. They were helping prevent collection disposal industrial oil waste and oil removal waste at the gas stations around town by making sure they were doing it properly themselves.

As for that family vacation Sara wanted, they were able to save enough money over the course of one year using DSE fuel to book a family trip to Florida! It was just what Sara needed to bring her family closer together again.
